The Current State of My Living Room
Besides the fact that it needs vacuuming! This is the latest furniture arrangement. I am a chronic furniture re-arranger. Especially, after moving into a new house. It always seems to be an exercise in problem solving. Trying to combine the best traffic flow, with the most functional use, with the best view out the windows, and of course it all has to be pleasing to the eye (at least to my eye!) So this is the latest. I thought some of my family that has not seen us in this house yet might be interested.
No pictures on the walls yet, and I am waiting until we get a string of warm days to paint so that I can leave the windows open. I put up the red curtains so there would actually be more color. I have such a hard time living with white. I love it in design magazines and in other peoples houses, but having too much white in my house doesn’t feel like home to me. I used some $5 clearance shower curtains (thanks Christy for the tip on that clearance sale!) and tied them up on a bamboo rod with a bunch of different ribbon that someone gave me years ago. They are a bit short for a normal floor length curtains, but work perfect for leaving our heat register exposed so we aren’t just heating behind the curtain.
I have actually never been a big fan of bows, so I don’t know how long this will last. But for now, I feel pretty good about getting some color up and being able to use what I already have.
Yep, this family member is definitely interested! It looks very nice! I know how much you love colored walls, so I know how hard it must be, but the curtains look great! I like the rug, too.
I love how warm and cozy it looks!
You are brave to use so much red! I love red also and even my dining room is a deep persimmon color. My kitchen is a darker red, but not too dark. I have a wall that is a chocolate brown also, and my guest bathroom was orange with glazes on it (that recently became the same persimmon as the dining room). I think your living room looks very cheerful and the bows on the curtains are a nice touch, a great detail.
Well, I don’t usually comment on home decor posts, but I wanted to commend your resourcefulness. Hey, and besides that, it looks great! You are a ‘homemaker’ in every sense of the word.
If you use a paint with no VOCs you can paint without opening the windows, no odor and no toxicity for you or your family.
I LOVE the material of your curtains! I wish I had more motivation to move furniture around– I usually just think really hard the first time and have a hard time believing I could do better (although I’ll bet I could!) I also love that the couch faces a window– I can see myself spending some nice moments there!
Always clever with the money and the item!
What a smart idea, using shower curtains!!
Ah, yes. Paint with no VOC’s… such a wonderful invention. Six months ago I went in search and found to my dismay that no one around here carries them. Maybe, I should look again, but I live in a part of the country that is only “green” in the summer. Seriously, we are surrounded by farms and when I ask at the local grocery store if something is grown locally, I get a response that is equal to “Of course not! That would be disgusting!” Okay, enough ranting. I thought about having paint shipped to me, but since I am so picky about color, I was worried that would turn into a fiasco. If I was really “green” I would just learn to live with white and not paint when it isn’t necessary. But I am afraid that I too, have a long way to go.
