Funky nesting instinks

February

What can I say? At least it is a little closer to spring, but it is the month when winter starts to get old. The dreary view from the back porch:

Winter view from the porch

And since I can’t run off to California, Florida or South America, I just want to run to the warm colors of my bedroom and the warmth of the down comforter.

Bed curtains

I hung the curtains around our bed a few weeks ago. I was thinking of painting the room first, but something about hanging them always makes me feel like I have come home, so I decided not to wait. I noticed that World Market had my dream bed on sale for half off a few weeks ago. I have always dreamed of a four poster bed, but when we did have the money for it, we ended up adding it to what we needed to buy a car. The truth is, I am not sure I would buy it, even if I had the money. I hope to live in this house a longish time (10+ years, keeping my fingers crossed!), but I am a nomad at heart, and can’t bear to invest in furniture I will want to move over and over again with me for the rest of my life. So for now I am sticking with just the mattress and box spring, along with my $100 used sofa and $50 dressers. All things I would feel quite comfortable giving away, if we had to move. It’s working for me, so I guess I won’t change yet!

i really like the way your “bed tent” looks. If your ceilings were high enough, we would do the same. Actually, if our ceilings were high enough maybe we wouldn’t have just sold the very bed you’re talking about! We loved the bed, and even though we don’t plan to live here more than 3-5 years, we couldn’t just hang onto it for that long. I appreciate your philosophy– it feels good to live lightly.
Winter only starts getting old in February?!

I love the view from your back porch, it will be wonderful in the summer. I have the yearning to settle in, which feels so appropriate during the winter. Over the last nearly two years my transient spirit has been tempered by way too much moving around. My heart longs for that place that feels comfortable and where you are happy to see everything just so….

Yes, that yard looks really cold… and your bed really cozy! I love seeing those bed curtains up again!

your bed looks so nice and cozy! the only problem with this is that I would want to hibernate for the whole winter : )

I can’t wait to hang out on your back porch this Spring and Summer! Maybe we can pay you guys a visit over our Spring Break…not to invite ourselves or anything! ;)

Saw your blog due to crochet interests, really inspired by the bed curtain idea- could you let us know how you hung it and what materials? I’m thinking of doing the same when we move next week! Thanks, cheers, happy crafting- Jana
